A Smooth Move-In Checklist for New Renters

Front Porch Communities

Moving day goes better when the week before is organized. A short checklist covers the essentials so you can enjoy the new space instead of chasing details.

Confirm your lease start date, key pickup, and parking instructions in writing. Transfer or set up utilities if they are in your name. Update your address with your bank, employer, and Canada Post. Pack an overnight bag with chargers, toiletries, bedding, and a few kitchen basics so the first night is comfortable even if boxes wait.

On move-in day, walk through the home with notes or photos of the condition. Report anything that needs attention early — that protects you and helps our team schedule maintenance if required. Locate smoke detectors, shut-off valves, and the thermostat so you know how the home works.

In the first week, test locks, appliances, and internet. Learn the garbage and recycling schedule. Save our contact details for maintenance requests so small issues do not become large ones.

We want every resident to feel at home quickly. If something is unclear after you move in, reach out — our property management team is here to help.
